Smith is Developing the First 24 Hours A Day Kidney Dialysis Center in New Jersey

he New Jersey Department of Health, OMMH is committed to helping people in diverse communities live longer, healthier lives and to leading the effort to reduce – and eventually eliminate – health disparities in New Jersey.

The advisory commission is responsible for a variety of functions including reviewing and making recommendations to OMMH on any rules, regulations and policies proposed by the office; advising the office on the awarding of grants and development of programs and services; and advising the office on needs, priorities, programs and policies relating to minority health in the State.

As a social entrepreneur, Smith is developing the Dunbar Center, a kidney dialysis center that will be located in Newark and open 24 hours a day. Smith has tapped Legacy Business Advisors of Trenton to serve as her development project manager for the $12 million facility that will add over to 150 jobs to the “Brick City” while meeting the needs of a medically underserved population in Newark and the greater Essex County region. Smith’s brother Steven Dunbar was her inspiration her to create this center to help those in need and to help improve the lives of kidney dialysis patients in New Jersey.

Tammeisha Smith brings over 20 years experience in the health insurance industry to her roles on the OMMH Advisory Commission as the developer of the Dunbar Center. Currently as vice president and partner at Alamo Insurance Group, Inc., Smith is responsible for driving the growth and expansion of the company, helping to propel Alamo to its current position as one of the largest certified minority-owned full service insurance brokerage firms in the country.  Prior to this, she held several positions in Sales/Marketing and Operations for Aetna, Inc., one of the nation’s leaders in health care insurance domestically and abroad.

Other passion projects for Smith include her community involvement and board memberships with various organizations including, but not limited to, New Jersey Small Business Development Center, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and Project Re-Direct/Youth & Family Services, Inc.
