I have spoke with many sports fans and Black NJ members about the potential trade that would bring Carmelo Anthony to the NJ Nets. Although I can't divulge everything I hear, I’d love to discuss trades in the NBA and what you specifically think about this move which could be the largest trade in NBA history. Below is the trade that is currently on the table. What do you think?
Denver Nuggets Receive: Two Nets First Round Picks (Possibly The Lottery Protected Warriors Pick), Devin Harris, Derrick Favors, Anthony Morrow, Ben Uzoh, Stephen Graham, Quinton Ross
New Jersey Nets Receive: Carmelo Anthony, Chauncey Billups, Rip Hamilton, Anthony Carter, Shelden Williams
Detroit Pistons Receive: Troy Murphy, Johan Petro
Is this trade good for the Nets?

There are only two factors keeping this trade from receiving an A. 1, Although Carmelo Anthony is a great talent, but you never want to give away lottery picks, especially not first round picks. 2, Chauncey Billups is a great point guard, but coming to the end of his career, Devin Harris on the other hand has some years left. But yes Billups will help you win, now.
But this overall deal would be a steal for the Nets. You have one of the top 5 players in the NBA right now, surrounded by two guards that can shoot and Strech the court, which opens up the paint for Carmelo and Lopez. Then you have Williams coming off the bench, alot of people might say Shelden who? But the kid can play, coming out of duke, and playing for boston just couldn't get on the court behind, all the big men they have. Do not forget about Farmar, he played lights out a couple of years ago in the playoffs for the lakers. And Vujacic is just extra points...
So what happened to Al harrington, thought he was suppose to be a part of the deal? Send him to Detroit.
To Sum it all up, I will be going to more Nets games, get ready Zach, you are going to get plenty of business from me....
Interesting take Floyd, i agree on many parts of that. Can’t pass up getting someone of Melo's talent level. He changes games. The nets have lost 7 overtime games this season..no wins. We need a go to scored and closer and he is it. I am a big Devin Harris fan but two things make him expendable. #1, He is VERY injury prone. He’s gonna miss 15-20 games every season and #2, he turns the ball over way too much...in bad situations too. Chauncey, although in the tail end of his career, puts up just as many points as Devin, is a better passer, and most importantly for our team, he is a Champion and a winner. You need that sort of a person to help a young team get better and to put 12-70 out of their minds. He has a good resume with Melo too. Add Hamilton to the mix and you have a very smart back court.
As far as Sheldon goes, he is a decent player but i don’t see him getting major minutes. A very similar player will get even more minutes in Kris Humphries. He like Sheldon spent his career as a back up behind Carlos Boozer, then backing up Bosh and then Dirk Novitzki, never getting to show his true ability. He will be a HUGE benefactor in this because all he will be asked to do is what he does best, rebound and play D.
Al Harrington seems to be the hold up. He has a large $22 Million, 4 year contract that the Nets don't want to take on but Denver seems adamant to get rid of. Either that or they want ANOTHER 1st round pick, something else we don’t want to give up. This may linger on until one team caves or until the trade deadline February 24th…regardless, I have my fingers crossed everyday that we pull off this mega deal!

Permalink Reply by Floyd Alford on January 13, 2011 at 3:52pm Yes I have to agree with you with the Billiups/Harris comparasion, but I was just looking towards the future. Billups does bring that stability and championship experience, but for how long. I was hoping the Nets were trying to build for the future instead of trying to sell out their new home in Brooklyn..
You are also right about Sheldon and Humphries, they are similiar players, with the same build there to rebound and play D. I hope I didn't make Shelden sound like a beast before, because he is not going to dominant a game, but he is just as humphries is a solid role palyer.
Like I said earlier just send harrington to the D and be done with him. He is so overrated and that 4 yr 22mil contract the nets does not need.
