"Shonna, do you think it is wrong that I tattooed my boyfriend's name on my ring finger?"

When I received this question, a lot of thoughts came to mind. I had to first ask some questions to get an understanding before I can give an answer that was fair, objective and non-judgmental.

I discovered that this woman wanted to be married to her live-in boyfriend and bare another child (three more if she could) but something didn't fit. After getting deeper with the assessment, I noticed some things that might be a "tell tale" sign.

1. She has lived and dated this gentleman for four years, in total.
2. He has never proposed although there were talks of marriage.
3. He has given excuses for why they are not married and mainly stating if "she would change."
4. There seems to be some tension around trust which causes outburst from time to time.

Of course there are more signs but, too, many to list while maintaining confidentiality. I concluded that if she has chosen to tattoo her ring finger with hopes of an actual ring, she may be setting herself up for pain and regrets.

Some men do not want to feel pressured into marriage and others may be "freaked" out by the tattoo of their name on their girlfriend's ring finger who they are apprehensive about marrying.

It may be better to hold off for a ring because a ring can be taken off but a tattoo is mainly forever.
