In our world one of the most valuable assets that we have is our time. It’s one of the only things that we can never get back. When we procrastinate we only postpone our life’s progress. We all have dreams, goals and a certain quality of life we want to have or maintain.
For many reasons we decide not to do what needs to be done now. For many the reasons are similar. “I don’t have time.” “I don’t have the money.” “I can’t because of my health.” “I’m not good enough.” Then there is the favorite among many. “I tried.” What’s funny is that we are pretty comfortable with these reasons and we believe them to be true.
When one says that they don’t have the time are they honestly using all of their time wisely. When one says that they don’t have the money are they properly budgeting their money.
There are many great people who could have easily used their health as an excuse. People such as John F. Kennedy who had severe back problems or someone like Lance Armstrong who had cancer. These men didn’t let their health stop them from being great.
Many people use the reason that they “tried.” Tried really means that they don’t actually have to produce any results. One may make an attempt, but without any guaranteed outcome. These reasons are only a reason to not live to your true god given potential.
Sometimes it’s attractive to wait for what tomorrow might bring. Tomorrow isn’t created tomorrow is it only created NOW. I call this the “Someday” mentality. Someday I’ll have a better relationship. Someday I’ll have the job I want. Someday my life will get better. Someday I’ll loose weight. Someday etc…….Guess what….”Someday” is not a day in the week. The thing that you want can only be created NOW. The following are my top 3 tips to take action NOW on what you want in life:
1) Be unreasonable
Resolve today to give up any and all of the excuses that you’ve created to stop from you from taking action. If you agree with your excuses, you agree to fail. Excuses, justifications and reasonableness produce nothing.
There is a quote by George Bernard Shaw. It says. “The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man.”
2) Begin with the end in mind
Vividly visualize the result that you want to produce. Write down a clear description of the result. Work backwards to create a plan that would allow you achieve your desired outcome.
Make sure that you commit to your goal and make a deadline to achieve the desired result. Only by fully committing to your goal will you be able to break through any obstacles that come in your way.
3) Take action every day – make it a Habit
Break up your goal into smaller simpler tasks that could be perform daily to produce the result that you want.
